[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 13일 새마을운동양주시지회는 무더운 날씨에도 불구하고 백석읍, 남면, 광적면, 장흥면, 회천2동 일대 주요 도로 및 마을과 아파트 단지에서 메리골드 꽃 심기 사업을 전개했다고 밝혔다.  

이날 사업에는 이종용 새마을지도자양주시협의회장, 박순희 양주시새마을부녀회장, 이천호 장흥면, 김민규 남면, 이종락 광적면 협의회장과 장희숙 백석읍, 박선녀 남면, 박보윤 광적면, 김경란 장흥면, 김순선 회천2동 부녀회장, 새마을지도자, 부녀회원, 자매결연부대 장병 등 60여 명이 동참했다고 했다. 

이번 꽃심기 사업은 외래 국화과 품종의 메리골드로 약 3,300본을 구입하여 남면 경신리, 광적면 덕도리, 장흥면 송추 일대 주요 도로와 백석읍, 회천2동 일부 마을과 아파트 단지에서 각각 분산하여 동시에 심었다고 했다.

메리골드 꽃은 10월까지 개화하므로 시민들에게 쾌적한 환경을 제공하기에 매우 적합한 꽃이라고 전했다. 

행사를 주관한 김용춘 회장은 “우리 고장과 마을은 우리가 항상 깨끗하게 유지하기 위하여 월 1회 이상 국토대청결운동을 하고 있으며 또한 지속적으로 아름답게 주변 환경을 가꾸기 위해  공모사업을 하게 되었고 이번 여름철에는 장마 후 곧장 메리골드 꽃을 심었고 가을에는 우리 나라 고유의 품종 국화꽃을 심겠다”고 앞으로의 계획을 밝혔다.
