이번 공모전은 ‘한 도시 한 책 읽기’ 실현을 위해 매년 추진 중인 ‘올해의 책’을 매개로 건강한 독서습관 정착과 독서 생활화를 통한 책 읽는 도시 양주 조성을 위해 기획됐다고 했다.

공모 대상 올해의 책은 우종영 작가의 ‘나는 나무에게 인생을 배웠다’, 황영미 작가의 ‘체리새우:비밀글입니다’, 김정민 작가의 ‘담을 넘은 아이’, 유설화 작가의 ‘슈퍼토끼’ 등 총 4권이라고 했다.

전 국민 누구나 참여할 수 있는 이번 공모전은 초등부(저학년, 고학년), 중등부, 고등부, 일반부 등으로 나눠 진행하며 도서 선택에는 연령별 제한이 없다고 했다.
