[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 11월 23일 포천시는 독립운동가이자 사상가인 장준하 선생의 정신을 계승·발전하기 위한 ‘장준하 평화관 건립 추진 간담회’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 간담회는 박윤국 포천시장과 장준하기념사업회 장호권 회장, 이동면 단체장 등이 참석해 장준하 평화관 건립 추진상황 및 계획에 대해 의견을 나눴으며, 포천시는 이동면에 부지면적 10,721㎡, 건축연면적 1,000㎡ 규모의 장준하 평화관 건립을 진행 중이고, 내년 도시계획시설 결정(공원) 등 행정절차를 진행할 계획이라고 했다.

박윤국 포천시장은 “장준하 선생의 고귀한 정신이 미래 후손들에게 계승될 수 있도록 ‘장준하 평화관 건립’에 최선을 다하겠다.”라며, “사업이 원활하게 진행될 수 있도록 열린 마음으로 다양한 의견을 경청해 사업에 반영하도록 하겠다.”라고 말했다.

장준하 선생은 1918년 8월 27일 평안북도 의주에서 태어나 일제 강점기에 광복군과 임시정부에서 활동하며 독립운동을 하였고, 해방 뒤에는 월간 종합교양지 ‘사상계’를 창간하고 독재에 맞서 민주화 운동을 펼치다 1975년 8월 17일 약사봉 계곡에서 숨진 채 발견됐다고 전했다.
