[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 11월 1일부터 오는 12월 말까지 동두천시 상상공작소에서는 유아숲체험과 목공체험을 결합한 연계목공체험을 진행 중에 있으며 이용객들의 반응이 아주 뜨겁다고 밝혔다.

11월 연계목공 체험명은 ‘딱따구리 드러밍 체험’으로 줄을 잡아당기면 ‘따다닥’소리가 나는 놀이기구 만들기로, 체험은 숲에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 폐목재를 활용해 나무에 그림도 그려보고 생소한 목공기계를 사용하여 나무에 구멍도 뚫어보는 방식이라고 했다.

목공기계를 처음 만져보는 아이들의 표정에는 두려움이 가득해 보였으나 나무에 구멍이 뚫리자 곧 그 두려움은 재미로 바뀌고 입가에는 미소가 번지는 모습을 보였으며, 체험에 참여한 한 어린이집 원장은 “숲체험 후 귀원하는 과정에서 뭔가 아쉬운 점이 있었는데 목공체험이 그 부족한 부분을 채워주는 것 같다”며 만족감을 한껏 드러냈다.

동두천시 관계자는 “유아숲체험 후 바로 이어서 목공을 실시하는 체험의 연속성에 포커스를 맞췄으며 또한 아이들이 나무를 직접 만져보는 과정을 통해 산림자원의 중요성 인식 및 탄소중립 실천에도 일조할 수 있는 살아있는 교육의 장이 될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했으며, 특히, “11월에는 탑동초등학교 전교생 110명이 목공체험 예약을 완료하였다”며 “이 중 78명이 공룡등 체험을 선택해 70프로가 넘는 비중을 차지하여 상상공작소 대표 체험 프로그램으로 자리매김하고 있다”고 말했다.

동두시는 뜨거운 반응에 발맞춰 11월 한시적으로 운영 예정인 ‘공룡등’을 오는 12월에도 판매할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
