[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 양주시는 농가소득 향상을 위해 ‘2021년 찰옥수수 생력화 재배기술 시범사업’을 관내 처음 도입하고 추진한다고 밝혔다. 

이번 사업은 경기도농업기술원에서 개발한 신품종 종자인 단맛이 강한 옥수수 ‘새미찰’과 흑자색 옥수수 ‘장수흑찰’, 파종기, 비료살포기 등 생력 농기계, 작물 정식과 비료주기를 동시에 할 수 있는 용출제어형 완효성 파구처리 비료 등을 옥정일원 3.3ha 찰옥수수 생산단지에 시범 적용하는 사업이라고 했다.

특히, 화학비료 시비량을 50% 절감하는 파구처리 비료를 사용, 생산성 증대, 노동력 절감 등 사업성과를 분석하기 위해 찰옥수수 비교 전시포를 운영한다고 했다.

한편, 양주시는 지난 1월 옥수수 신품종 지역특화 단지를 육성하기 위해 4명으로 구성된 찰옥수수 생산 참여회를 발족하고 지난 2월 소비자 기호에 맞는 재배 기술과 상품성 향상 등을 논의하기 위한 시범사업 추진협의회를 개최했다고 했다.

양주 찰옥수수 생산단지 조원구 대표는 “요즈음 간식용으로 찰옥수수 소비가 많이 늘고 있다”며 “옥수수 재배농가 맞춤형 시범사업을 통해 재배농가 경쟁력 향상에 크게 도움이 되길 기대한다”고 전했다. 

한태수 농업기술센터 소장은 “관내 토질과 기후에 적합한 찰옥수수 품종 보급과 상품성 향상을 목표로 시범사업 성과와 문제점을 분석해 재배기술을 체계적으로 보급할 계획”이라며 “소비자 판로도 확충해 안정적 농가소득 향상에 기여해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
