[김현우 기자 = 가평] 가평군은 동절기간 안전을 위해 노선버스 등 차량출입을 통제해 왔던 ‘호명호수’가 오는 13일부터 11월까지 개방한다고 전했다.

개방시간은 오전 9시부터 오후 6시까지며 입장료는 무료다. 군은 안전과 자연보호, 주차난 해소 등을 위해 노선버스만 정상까지 운행한다고 설명했다.

승용차를 가져온 관광객은 호수 입구에 마련된 주차장에서 노선버스로 옮겨 타거나 걸어 올라가야 한다. 경춘선 전철을 타고 상천역에서 내려 90분만에 등반도 가능하다.

하늘과 맞닿아 백두산 천지를 연상케 하는 호명호수는 한국 최초의 양수발전소로 발전소 상부에 물을 저장하기 위해 호명산(632m)자락에 조성한 인공호수다.

호명산은 옛날 산림이 우거지고 사람들의 왕래가 적었을 때 호랑이들이 많이 서식하여 호랑이 울음소리가 들려오곤 하였다는 데서 명명되었다.

호수 면적이 15만㎡에 달하며, 267만여 톤의 물을 담고 있으며, 호수 주변에는 팔각정을 비롯해 전망대가 마련돼 있어 이곳에 서면 푸른 물과 파란 하늘이 쪽빛을 만들어내 싱싱함과 젊음을 안겨준다.

또한, 1.9㎞ 길이의 호수주변 도로는 자전거를 탈수 있어 산 정상과 호숫가를 돌아보며 하이킹을 즐길 수 있다.

가평군 관계자는 “마치 백두산 천지를 닮은 숲 속의 호명호수는 가평의 아름다운 풍광을 만끽할 수 있는 대표 관광지”라며, “건강한 자연을 선보일 호명호수에서 신선한 공기를 맘껏 즐기고 담아 가길 바란다"고 말했다.

한편 가군은 지난 2018년 청평면에서 조종천을 건너 호명산(632m)으로 가는 등산진입로 보행전용교량인 총연장 93m, 폭 2m의 ‘호명산 진입로 교량설치’를 완공하기도 했다.

교량에는 기타모양의 주탑과 야간경관조명, 데크 등도 설치돼 지역의 랜드마크로 탈바꿈하며, 그동안 조종천 돌 징검다리를 이용해 호명산을 오르던 주민과 등산객의 위험과 불편이 해소되기도 했다.
