[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 양주시는 정부 2050 탄소중립 선언 등에 발맞춰 한국섬유소재연구원과 (주)금성침대 본사 등 관내 기업 2곳에 실내 수직정원을 시범 운영한다고 밝혔다. 

수직정원은 건물의 실내 벽면에 수직으로 식물을 심어 재배하는 자연 친화적 녹색공간조성사업으로 건물 내부의 미관 개선과 공기정화와 주변 온·습도 조절, 이용자들의 정서적 안정 효과 등이 뛰어난 것으로 알려졌다고 했다.

양주시는 지난해 광적면행정복지센터, 양주시장애인종합복지관 등 2곳에 수직정원을 시범 운영한 결과 시민들로부터 큰 호응을 얻어 올해 확대해 사업을 추진하게 됐다고 전했다.

특히 올해는 측정 장비를 새롭게 도입해 미세먼지, 포름알데히드 등 성분별로 공기 질을 데이터로 한눈에 볼 수 있으며 녹색과 적색, 색 변화를 통해 실내 공기 질을 실시간 확인할 수 있어 데이터를 기반으로 한 효율적인 실내 환경 관리가 가능하게 됐다고 했다.

또한 수직정원이 조성된 4개소는 청결한 실내 환경과 지속적인 유지 관리를 위해 센터에서 육성한 도시농업매니저 3명을 지정 배치해 관리·운영할 계획이라고 했다. 

양주시 농업기술센터 관계자는 “이번에 조성된 수직정원을 통해 근로 환경이 개선되길 바라며 탄소중립 실천과 그린뉴딜사업의 방안으로 앞으로도 다양한 기관에 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
