[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 25일 육군 제8기동사단은 경기도 의정부시에 있는 의정부지구전투기념비에서 의정부 축석령 전투 추모행사를 거행했다고 밝혔다.

올해로 71주년을 맞은 의정부 축석령 전투 추모행사는 6ㆍ25전쟁 초기, 서울로 진격하기 위해 의정부 축석령을 넘어오던 북한군 3사단, 105전차여단에 맞서 용전 분투하다 순국하신 故김풍익ㆍ장세풍 중령과 포병 결사대원들의 살신성인과 호국정신을 기리기 위해 매년 열리고 있다고 했다.

이날 행사는 전사(戰史)보고, 헌화 및 분향, 추념사, 헌시(獻詩) 낭독, 야전포병대가(砲兵隊歌) 제창 순으로 진행됐으며, 코로나19 사회적 거리두기 지침에 따라 방역수칙을 철저히 준수한 가운데 부대 자체 행사로 진행됐다고 했다.

의정부지구 축석령 전투는 1950년 6월 26일 새벽 국군 제2포병대대(제8기동사단 50포병대대의 전신)가 포천시 송우리까지 진출한 북한군 3사단 105전차여단을 막아낸 전투로 당시 고 김풍익ㆍ장세풍 중령과 포병 결사대원들은 세계 전사에 유례없는 야포 직접 조준 사격으로 북한군 전차를 파괴한 뒤 장렬히 전사했다고 전했다.
