[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 3월 4일 원주경찰서는 원주원예농협 태성지점을 방문하여, 로맨스 스캠 사기 피해를 예방한 박연 과장에게 감사장을 수여했다고 밝혔다.

이날 감사장은 코로나19 영향으로 유정수 북원지구대장이 대신 전달했으며, 박연 과장은 지난 2월 21일 피해자(69세, 남)가 자택에 보관 중인 현금 2,000만원을 들고 태성지점으로 방문하여 외국인 명의 계좌로 이체를 요구하자 피해자의 SNS를 확인한 후 최근 유행하고 있는 로맨스 스캠을 의심, 112에 신고하여 피해자의 소중한 재산을 보호했다고 했다.

피해자는 SNS를 통해 알게 된 불상자(여성 사칭)와 연락하던 중, 불상자로부터 “한국에 가려면 돈이 필요하니 2,000만원을 입금하라”는 요구를 받고 계좌이체를 하기 위해 태성지점을 찾은 것으로 확인됐다고 했다.

한편, 정훈도 서장은 “지역주민을 위한 원주원예농협 태성지점 직원들의 관심과 노력으로 큰 피해를 예방할 수 있었다.”며 “전화금융사기를 예방하기 위해서는 최일선 금융기관과의 긴밀한 협조 체제 구축이 필요하다. 금융기관과 공조하여 전화금융사기 예방과 범인 검거에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
