[김준호 기자 =동해시] 최근 3高 현상으로 인한 경기 둔화로 수출에 빨간 불이 켜졌다는 우려가 높아지는 가운데, 동해항을 통한 수출은 연간 수출액 최고치를 경신하는 호조세를 나타내고 있다.

북방물류산업진흥원(원장 최호영)에 따르면 올 9월까지 동해항을 통한 수출액은 6억 231만 달러를 돌파, 연간 사상최고치를 기록했다. 이전 기록은 지난 2014년에 기록한 6억 6만 달러로 올해는 3분기 만에 이 기록을 경신했다.

동해항의 월 평균 수출액이 5천만 달러를 상회하고 있는 점을 고려하면 올해 동해항의 연간 수출액은 7억 달러를 넘을 것으로 전망하고 있다.

전년 동기 대비 증가율을 보면 58.7%로 강원도 증가율 5.5%는 물론 전국 증가율 14.3%와 비교해도 월등한 수치다. 전국 주요 항만과 비교해도 동해항은 부산신항과 여수항에 이어 전국 3위의 증가율을 기록(5억 달러 이상 수출액 기준)하고 있다.

올 초부터 이어지고 있는 이 같은 동해항의 수출 호조를 떠받치고 있는 것은 전선과 합금철, 시멘트 등 기존의 주력제품에 더해 북방경제권으로 수출되는 중고자동차, 건설기계와 담배, 화장품 등의 일상용품들이다.

품목별로 보면 해저케이블을 포함한 전선류가 1억 6,561만 달러, 합금철과 중고자동차가 각각 1억 1,914만 달러와 1억 1,689만 달러로 빅 3를 구성하고 있으며, 시멘트와 황산 등 꾸준히 실적을 나타내는 제품들과 함께 담배, 화장품, 세제 등 일상용품의 수출도 급성장하고 있다.

국가별 수출액을 보면 2억 1,883만 달러의 러시아가 최대 수출국으로 부상했으며, 합금철 수출이 많았던 미국과 해저케이블의 주요 수출국인 대만과 네덜란드가 그 뒤를 잇고 있다.

눈에 띄는 것은 북방경제권 국가들에 대한 수출이 비약적으로 성장하고 있다는 점인데, 상위 20개 수출국에 러시아뿐만 아니라 카자흐스탄, 몽골, 우즈베키스탄, 타지키스탄, 키르기스스탄 등 6개국이나 포함돼 있다.

한편, 동해항의 구조적 문제 중 하나인 무역적자 폭은 에너지 제품의 수입 감소 덕분에 전년도의 14억 7063만 달러에서 13억 6705만 달러로 소폭 감소해 다소 호전되고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

이 같은 동해항의 수출 호조세와 북방경제권에 대한 수출 증가에 대해 지역사회에서는 북방경제 산업물류 중심도시를 표방한 시의 장기비전이 서서히 현실화되고 있는 것이 아닌가 하는 기대가 흘러나오고 있다.
