[김준호 기자 = 삼척시] 삼척시는 지난 8월 29일 삼척시농업기술센터 앞 삼척동자쌀 주산지에서 동자벼 수확 연시회를 개최했다. 시는 삼척쌀을  추석 햅쌀용으로 판매하기 위해서 2019년 부터 “동자벼” 특산단지를 조성해 왔다.

동자벼는 강원도농업기술원에서 ‘오래벼’와 ‘고시히까리’를 교배해 육성한 신품종으로, 지역 최초로 현 단지에서 2016년 시험 재배를 시작하여, 2018년 품종 등록을 마쳤고 2019년부터 현재까지 특산단지를 조성하고 있다.

금년 수확 연시는 박상수 시장이 승용 콤바인을 이용해 삼척에서 처음으로 동자벼 수확 시연을 하였으며, 강원도농업기술원 김남석 국장은 동자벼 품종의 우수성에 대해서 설명하였다.

동자벼는 오대벼보다 품종 특성이 우수하고 특히, 극조생종으로서 추석 전 출하가 가능하여, 수매기관인 농협 측은 금년 동자벼를 자체 수매 품목으로 지정하여 추석 판매용으로 수매할 계획으로 전해졌으며, 농가에서는 소득향상을 기대하고 있다.

시 관계자는 동자벼의 확대 재배를 위하여 내년도 국비를 확보하여 채종포를 설치할 계획이라고 전했다.
