[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 민긍호 의병장 순국 114주기 묘제가 오는 2월 28일 오전 11시 봉산동 산 5-8번지에 위치한 민긍호 의병장 묘역에서 봉행된다고 전했다.

광복회 원주연합지회 주관으로 해마다 보훈단체 회원 등 200여 명을 초청해 묘제를 봉행해왔으나 작년에 이어 올해도 코로나19 감염 예방을 위해 참석 범위를 최소화하기로 했다고 전했다.

1897년 진위대에 입대한 민긍호 의병장은 일본에 의해 대한제국 군대가 강제 해산되던 1907년 강원도 일대에서 의병을 규합해 무장봉기를 시작했으며, 1908년 2월에는 충청도와 경기도 일원까지 진출하며 100여 차례의 전투를 벌여 일본군에 큰 타격을 입혔다고 했다.

1908년 2월 29일 의병 구출 작전 중 민긍호 의병장이 순국한 이후 유족들은 북만주로 이주했으며, 1962년 민긍호 의병장에게 건국훈장 대통령장이 추서됐다고 했다.
