그동안 농어촌도로는 차도와 인도를 혼용으로 사용하고 있어 상대적으로 교통약자인 보행자들에게는 교통사고 등의 위험성이 있었으며, 이로 인해 지역주민들이 인도 개설을 요청하는 민원들도 빈번했다고 했다.

보행권 확보사업이 완료되면 지역주민들의 통행 불편이 해소될 것으로 기대되고, 특히 추가적인 도로부지를 매입하지 않아도 되기 때문에 사업이 신속하게 진행될 예정이라고 했다.

시정부 관계자는 “앞으로도 시민들에게 쾌적환 도로 환경을 제공하기 위해 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.
