[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 양주시는 서정대학교 산학협력단과 손잡고 협력단에서 운영 중인 ‘천성마을 행복학습관’ 수강생들의 삶이 담긴 이야기책을 출간했다고 밝혔다.

천성마을 행복학습관에는 평균 연령 80세의 수강생 10여명이 배움에 대한 열정을 이어가고 있으며, 이번에 출간한 책에는 어르신들이 뒤늦게 배움의 길에 들어서게 된 사연과 함께 한글교실, 미술교실 등 다양한 교육프로그램에 참여하며 인생 제2막을 펼치는 이들의 모습을 생생하게 담았다고 했다.

학습관 전담교수인 염일열 서정대학교 지역발전연구소장은 “평생교육으로 한글을 깨우친 어르신들이 학습관을 통해 배움의 소중함을 느끼고 있다”며 “직접 글을 읽으며 즐거워하는 어르신들을 모습을 보며 다양한 우리나라의 옛이야기와 어르신들이 살아온 인생 이야기를 함께 엮으면 뜻깊을 것이라고 생각했다”며 출간 계기를 밝혔다.

조명희 양주시 평생교육진흥원장은 “본 책자 발간은 어르신들에게도 소중한 추억이 될 것”이라며 “천성마을 행복학습관 어르신들의 배움의 열기가 뜨거운 만큼 올해도 유익한 프로그램이 진행될 수 있도록 당부드린다 밝혔다.

한편 양주시 유양2통 천성마을 행복학습관은 그간 소외된 한센인들의 삶의 질을 높이고 교육받을 기회를 제공하기 위해 지난 2010년 경기행복학습마을로 지정, 매년 공모를 통해 서정대학교 산학협력단에서 현재까지 운영 중이며 마을 내 ‘작은 학교’ 역할을 톡톡히 하고 있다고 전했다.
