[브레이크뉴스 동두천 = 김완영 기자] 동두천시는 26일, 「GTX-C 동두천 연장」을 국토교통부에 공식 건의했다.
 
그간 시는 2021년부터 관계 기관과 업무협의 진행, 시민들과의 소통을 통한 11만 서명부 제출 등 지속적으로 사업을 추진해왔으며, 최근 국토교통부 및 GTX-C 연장 관련 지자체들과 수차례 회의를 통해 조속한 추진 방안에 대해 조율해왔다.
 
GTX-C 동두천 연장사업 건의가 공식적으로 이루어짐에 따라 국토교통부는 지자체에서 수행한 사전타당성 조사 결과를 바탕으로 타당성 검증용역을 수행해 사업추진 가능 여부를 확인할 예정이다.
 
시가 2021년에 수행한 사전타당성 조사 결과에 따르면 GTX-C 동두천 연장은 경제성과 재무성을 확보하여 사업 시행 여건을 충족하고 있으며 시민들이 겪고 있는 광역 교통 불편을 신속하게 해결하기 위해 원인자부담 방식을 통해 사업을 진행하여 GTX-C 본선과 동시 개통을 도모하고 있다.
 
박형덕 시장은 “국토교통부에 건의가 이루어짐에 따라 GTX-C 동두천 연장이 한 걸음 더 나아갔다. 국토교통부와 관련 지자체들이 유기적인 협력을 통해 GTX-C 동두천 연장을 확정할 수 있도록 모든 행정력을 집중하겠다.”라고 말했다.
