[김완영 기자 = 양주] 강수현 양주시장이 22일 민선 8기 주요 현안 사업의 조속한 추진을 논의하기 위해 국토교통부 세종청사를 방문했다.
 
강수현 시장은 원희룡 국토교통부 장관을 만난 자리에서 ▲광석지구 택지개발사업 조속 추진, ▲GTX-C 노선 양주역 추가 정차, ▲회천지구 개발계획 변경 재검토 등의 주요 현안 사업에 대한 적극적인 지원을요청했다.
 
특히, 강 시장은 부동산 경기 침체 및 사업성 저평가 예측의 사유로 미추진 중인 ‘광석지구 택지개발사업’의 조속하고 차질 없는 진행을 위해 사업 시행자인 LH 한국토지주택공사의 대한 국토부 차원의 독려와 대책 마련을 건의했다.
 
이어, ▲양주역세권 개발, ▲테크노밸리 조성, ▲양주신도시 조성 등에 따른 인구 유입으로 발생한 관내 동·서 지역 간 교통 불균형을 해소하고 서부지역 거주 시민들의 편의 확대를 위해 ‘GTX-C 노선 양주역 추가 정차’가 반드시 필요하다고 강조했다.
 
또한, 강 시장은 ‘양주신도시 회천지구’의 공원 등 기반 시설 용지 조성을 위해 개발계획 변경 재검토를 요청했다.
 
‘양주신도시 회천지구’는 지난 2008년 실시계획이 승인돼 2014년 착공을 시작으로 2021년 1단계 사업을 완료하고 2025년 준공을 목표로 2, 3단계 사업을 추진하고 있다.
 
지난 2022년 입주를 시작으로 약 2만 6천 세대가 입주할 예정이지만 타 신도시에 비해 기반 시설이 절대적으로 부족함을 국토교통부에 적극 피력하여 개발계획 변경 재검토를 통한 기반 시설을 확보해줄 것을 호소했다.
 
이에 양주시민 A 씨는“강 시장이 2년 차에 들어오면서 차츰 시정의 맥을 잘 짚어가는 것 같다. 더욱 시민과의 소통속에서 합리적인 시정을 펼치기를 바란다”며 양주발전에 기대감을 가졌다.
 
강수현 양주시장은 “정부의 건전재정 운영 기조와 경기 변화 등으로 국비 확보에 많은 어려움이 있을 것으로 보이지만, 정부 부처와의 긴밀한 소통을 통해 지역 현안 사업들이 차질 없이 추진될 수 있도록 힘을 쏟겠다”고 말했다.
