[김완영 기자 = 양주] 양주시(시장 강수현) 오는 5월 5일부터 7일까지 3일간 양주 회암사지(사적) 일원에서 ‘2023 양주 회암사지 왕실축제’를 개최한다.
‘치유의 궁, 다시(RE;) 조선의 문을 열다’를 부제로 열리는 이번 축제는 ‘태조 이성계의 치유의 궁궐’ 양주 회암사지를 무대로 마련한 다채로운 체험형 콘텐츠와 볼거리로 가정의 달 5월을 맞아 온 가족들이 즐길 수 있는 시민참여형 양주 역사문화 대표 축제에 초점을 두고 알차게 준비했다.
시는 본격적인 축제에 앞서 지역 대표 관광명소인 옥정중앙공원에 축제 개막을 홍보하는 화려한 야간 경관조명 설치로 이색적인 볼거리를 제공하는 한편, 다양한 음악이 함께 어우러진 시립예술단의 ‘찾아가는 음악회’ 운영으로 축제 분위기를 한껏 고조시킬 예정이다.
축제 기간이 기존 2일에서 3일로 연장된 이번 왕실축제는 조선시대로의 시간여행을 한 듯한 왕실체험 프로그램을 비롯해 어린이날과 연계한 맞춤형 체험활동, 지역특산품 판매장 운영 등 특색있는 볼거리와 즐길거리, 먹거리가 모두 갖췄다는 점이 특징이다.
특히 그간 코로나19로 축소 진행됐던 ‘태조 이성계의 어가행렬’재현 행사가 코로나 이전 정상 규모로 복원, 회암사 행차 행렬이 옥정지구 시가지를 통과하며 시민에게 더 가까이 찾아갈 예정이다.
또한 시 승격 20주년에 진행되는 시 대표축제인 만큼 현대와 과거가 공존하는 양주시의 모습과 희망의 메시지를 전달하는 세레머니가 개막식과 함께 진행된다.
축제 부대행사로는 창작뮤지컬 ‘하늘을 받들다’, 회암사 문화재 퀴즈대회 ‘청동금탁을 울려라’, 창작 연극 ‘영웅 불패’, 시간의 문, 이성계의 병영체험, 시민 한복모델 선발대회, 저잣거리 체험, 고고학 체험 등 양주 회암사지 왕실축제만의 정체성과 가치를 함께 향유 할 수 있는 다채로운 프로그램이 준비됐다.
아울러 어린이날을 맞아 아동 방문객을 위한 119 소방안전 체험, 식품왕관만들기 등 공연, 전시, 체험, 부대 프로그램이 다양한 체험과 힐링을 제공할 예정이다.
또한 행사장 주변에는 오이, 토종꿀, 건여주, 목이버섯, 야생두릅 등 지역특산품 판매장이 마련돼 지역민 소득과 연계될 수 있는 수익형 축제로 거듭날 전망이다.
강수현 시장은 “태조 이성계의 마음의 안식처 회암사지에서 가족, 지인과 함께 5월 5일 어린이날 행사와 더불어 양주시의 다양한 모습을 보여주는 부대행사로 코로나19로 지친 시민들의 마음이 즐거움으로 치유되고 함께 나아가는 양주시의 모습을 선사할 수 있도록 축제 준비에 총력을 기울이겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 양주 회암사지 왕실축제는 2022년에 이어 올해에도 경기도를 대표하는 경기관광축제로 선정돼 전국단위 축제로 성장할 수 있는 기반을 구축했다는 평가를 받는다.
이와 함께 양주 회암사지는 2022년 7월 20일 유네스코 세계유산 잠정목록으로 등재되며 14세기 동아시아에서 국제적으로 유행했던 선종사원의 모습을 고고학적으로 증명하는 유산으로 그 가치를 인정받아 유네스코 세계유산 등재를 적극 추진하고 있다.
