<김일웅기자= 포천> 백영현 포천시장은 지난 24일부터 26일까지 일산 킨텍스에서 열린 ‘2023 대한민국 과일 산업대전 대표 과일 선발대회’에 전시된다고 밝혔다. 지난 21일 농림축산식품부에서 주최한 사과 신품종 부문에서 가 ‘우수상’을 수상한 바 있다. 

루비에스는 농촌진흥청에서 육성하는 국내 사과 품종으로 포천시는 지난 2017년부터 2021년까지 25개 농가 12.9ha 상당의 루비에스 사과 농지를 조성하고 브랜드를 육성해 왔다. 또, 루비에스 사과를 지역 특화 품종으로 키우기 위해 포장재 및 마케팅 지원, 재배 기술 교육 등 많은 지원을 아끼지 않았다.

이번 대회에서 입상(우수상)한 일동면 김광섭 농가는 포천시 사과연구회원으로 활동하는 등 포천 사과의 발전을 위해 일선에서 노력해 왔다. 지난 2018년 포천시농업기술센터의 지원을 받아 루비에스 품종 사과를 재배하기 시작했다고 했다. 

포천시농업기술센터 관계자는 “올해 개화기 저온현상, 우박, 긴 장마 등 어려운 기상 여건에도 불구하고 높은 품질의 사과를 생산하기 위해 노력해주신 농업인들의 노고에 감사드리며, 이번 수상을 통해 포천 사과의 품질을 입증한 만큼 시에서도 지속적인 품질관리를 위해 현장 지도와 교육, 시범사업 추진 등 지원을 아끼지 않겠다.” 고 밝혔다.

On the 21st, Pocheon's RubyS apple won the 'Excellence Award' in the apple variety category hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

RubyS is a domestic apple variety cultivated by the Rural Development Administration. From 2017 to 2021, Pocheon City has created 12.9ha worth of RubyS apple farmland for 25 farms and fostered the brand. In addition, we did not spare much support, including packaging materials, marketing support, and cultivation technology training, to grow Ruby S apples as a regionally specialized variety.

Farmer Kim Gwang-seop of Ildong-myeon, who won the prize (excellence prize) in this competition, has been working on the front lines for the development of Pocheon apples, including working as a Pocheon City apple research member. He said he began cultivating Rubies variety apples in 2018 with support from the Pocheon City Agricultural Technology Center.

An official from the Pocheon City Agricultural Technology Center said, “We thank the farmers for their hard work in producing high-quality apples despite difficult weather conditions such as low temperatures, hail, and long rainy seasons during the flowering season this year, and this award proves the quality of Pocheon apples.” “As much as we did, the city will spare no effort in providing support such as on-site guidance, education, and pilot projects to ensure continuous quality control.” He said.
