[김완영 기자 = 양주] 양주시 체육회 산하 볼링협회(협회장 정현석)는 지난 13일 섬유지원센터 컨벤션홀에서 임재근 체육회장과 경기도 볼링협회 정장식 회장 및 시의회 한상민 부의장 등 시민과 볼링 선수단, 클럽 회장, 회원들이 참석한 가운데 제16대 정현석 회장의 취임식을 거행했다.
전임 회장인 도후성 회장과 함께 볼링협회 자문 위원으로 활동해 온 신임 정현석 회장은 협회 운영에 대한 어려운 논쟁들을 소통으로 이끌어 해결 방안을 제시해 회원들의 지지 속에 협회장에 당선된 것으로 전해졌다.
식전 행사로 황우연 작가의 “도약하는 양주, 도약하는 양주 볼링”이란 휘호를 현장에서 붓글씨로 써 내려가는 퍼포먼스가 있었다.
황우연 작가는 즉석에서 붓을 이용, 양손으로 작품을 그리는 화백으로 유명하다.
정현석 신임 회장은 취임사에서 “양주시 32개 클럽 회원과 관내 초·중·고에서 훈련하는 선수단, 그리고 실업선수단에 이르기까지 모든 회원과 원활한 소통을 통한 양주시 볼링협회 발전이라는 가치를 드높이는데 전념하겠다”라고 밝혔다
아울러 “이 자리에 참석하신 300여 동호인, 선수단, 지도자 여러분과 함께 머리를 맞대고 양주시 볼링의 발전을 위하여 최선을 다하겠다”라고 다짐의 축사를 했다.
임재근 체육회장은 축사에서 “한국 볼링의 메카로 명성이 높은 양주시 볼링협회의 제 16대 회장 취임을 축하드리며, 양주시 체육회장으로 여기 계신 볼링 동호인과 함께 볼링 전용구장 건립을 위해 한상민, 정희태 양주시 의원과 긴밀히 상의해 나가겠다”라고 밝혀 청중의 열렬한 박수를 이끌었다.
한편, 정 신임 회장은 인천에 소재한 인하대 토목학과 졸업 후 국내 건설업계서 잔뼈가 굵은 토목 전문가로 (주)태린종합건설 CEO로 재직 중이다.
