[김준호 기자 = 삼척시] 지난 3월 13일 발생한 울진·삼척 산불은 213시간 만에 진화된 역대 최장·최악 산불 기록될 정도로 심각한 피해를 입었다. 

삼척시는 원덕읍 산불로 786ha의 산림이 피해를 입었고, 피해 금액은  34억5,100만 원으로 조사됐다고 밝히면서 산불피해지 복구를 위한 긴급벌채 사업을 추진한다.

시는 오는 9월 2일 오전 10시 원덕읍 행정복지센터 2층 대회의실에서 산불피해지 긴급벌채 사업 시행 전 사업계획에 대한 주민설명회를 개최하여 대상 지역주민들과 산주의 의견을 수렴할 예정이다.

이번 긴급벌채 사업은 산불로 인해 발생한 피해목 벌채와 수집 등을 실시하여 산불피해지 내의 산사태, 산림 병해충 등 추가피해를 최소화하고 조속한 산림 복구를 위해 추진하며, 시는 긴급벌채 집행기준에 따라 생활권 주변 및 도로변 가시권 지역으로 대상지를 선정했다.

시는 올해 12월 말까지 국비 33억8,800만 원을 투입하여 원덕읍 월천리 산66-1번지 외 73필지 81ha를 대상으로 산불피해지 벌목, 산물수집, 산물운반 및 정리 등 긴급벌채 사업을 실시할 계획으로 삼척시 관계자는 “산불 피해지역에 2차 피해가 발생하지 않도록 조속한 산림 복구를 위해 노력하겠다.”고 말했다.

하지만, 산불 발생 시점으로부터 5개월이 지난 늑장 대처라는 지역 주민의 지적과 계절의 특성상 건기에 접어들기 시작하기 때문에 산불에 대한 트라우마로 이해 당사자들의 속은 타 들어만 가고 있다.
