별내동 초대형 물류센터 문제의 본질은 아파트와 학교가 있는 주거지역에 주민들의 안전을 위협하는 건축물이 허가되었다는 것과 주민들의 건축허가 취소 요구가 너무도 크다는 것이다. 

 

하지만 조광한 시장은 주민들과 똑같은 심정이라면서 정작 허가취소는 하지 않고, “허가는 담당국장이 해줘서 시장은 책임이 없다” “주민들의 심정은 이해하지만 적법한 절차였으니까 부당하다고 생각되면 소송하라”는 등의 주장으로 일관하고 있다. 

 

심지어 주민들의 의견을 대변하는 국회의원에 대해서는 “잘못되었다고 생각하면 국회에서 법률을 고치고 나서 말하라”는 식의 비이성적 정치공세를 하고 있다.
