Jarasum Namdo Flower Garden Opening Extension

Paid opening of the “Jara Island Namdo Flower Garden”, a representative tourist attraction in Gapyeong-gun, will be extended until the end of October.

Earlier, the military has been reducing the opening of the flower garden in Namdo Island, which was built in the wake of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), to the public from the 26th of last month to Sunday the 18th of this month.

According to the county on the 15th, the opening of the Namdo flower garden has resulted in revitalization of the local economy stagnated by Corona 19, such as the opening of the Namdo flower garden, which has resulted in sales of agricultural and specialty products reaching 135 million won and increasing sales of nearby restaurants. It is said that the opening period will be extended as flowers are expected to remain in full bloom for the time being.

The daily admission fee during the opening period is 5,000 won, which is exchanged for a Gapyeong Love Gift Certificate. Gapyeong-gun residents and infants under the age of 3 must present their ID card for free.

The viewing hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, and night scenery (park of light) such as gobo lighting, laser lighting, and Vlad is operated from sunset to 10 pm.

During the open period, the county is making every effort to prevent safety accidents and manage the environment of waterfront areas by preparing various convenient facilities such as operating a general information center, toilet and parking facilities, shelter building, food market, and cultural tourism commentator operation.

In addition, quarantine measures to prevent Corona 19 will be strengthened. Admission is possible after quarantine personnel are placed, thermal imaging cameras are installed, hand sanitizers are provided, masks are worn, and electronic visitor lists (QR code authentication) are prepared.

Last year, the county opened an era of 80,000 visitors by installing a flower complex, landscape lighting, and tourist convenience facilities in about 110,000 square meters of Namdo Island in Jara Island last year.

In the flower garden of Namdo Island in Jara Island, various flowers such as Baek Ilhong, Cosmos, Gujeolcho, Marigold, and Pink Muhly were installed, as well as photo zones and observation decks. Jarasum was also selected as the “100 Night Scenery” by the Korea Tourism Organization this year.

Jara Island, consisting of four islands including Dongdo, Seodo, Namdo, and Jungdo, is 614,000m2, which is 1.5 times that of Nami Island. A campground was set up in Seodo, and four seasons such as a jazz festival are held in the middle.

The county is looking for ways to utilize the Dongdodo Promenade, which has been neglected as an undeveloped area.

Jarasum was called'Chinese Island' because the Chinese people lived and farmed it since 1943, and in 1986 it was named as it is. It was submerged in the water whenever it rained a lot due to the influence of sand collection, and because of this, it was alienated from the development and even residents did not recognize it as an island.

However, due to the flood control of the Bukhan River water dams, the number of times of submersion in Jarasum has been greatly reduced, and starting with the International Jazz Festival in 2004, it is located at the center of Gapyeong tourism.
