기자: 26일 오전 영연방(영국·캐나다·호주·뉴질랜드) 한국전쟁 참전 72주년을 맞아 가평군 영연방 참전비에서 기념행사가 개최됐습니다.

이번 행사는 각국 대사관 및 국가보훈처가 주관하고 가평군과 66사단이 후원을 맡았으며, 서태원 가평군수, 국가보훈처 서울지방보훈청장, 방위사업청장, 66사단장, 유엔사 부사령관 등 100여 명이 참석했습니다.

기념식은 개식사, UN기수단입장, 영국국왕말씀 낭독, 추모예배, 가평전투 약사 낭독, 묵념, 헌화 순으로 진행됐습니다.

이날 행사에서 이종섭 국방부 장관은 김성준 인사복지실장이 대독한 추도사를 통해 희생자의 넋을 기렸으며, 나치만 서울지방보훈청장도 참전용사들의 숭고한 정신을 미래 세대에게 계승하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

김성준 국방부 인사복지실장: 먼저 대한민국의 자유와 세계의 평화를 지키기 위해 목숨 바쳐 싸웠던 가평지구 전투 영웅들과 유엔군 참전용사들의 숭고한 헌신을 기리며 머리 숙여 명복을 빕니다.

대한민국이 오늘과 같이 성공한 자유민주주의 국가이자 경제 강국으로 성장할 수 있었던 것은 유엔군 참전용사들의 헌신 덕분입니다. 

나치만 서울지방보훈청장: 우리 정부는 영웅들의 피와 땀을 기억하고 그 숭고한 정신을 미래 세대에게 계승할 수 있도록 더욱 노력하겠습니다.

특히, 올해 정전 70주년 기념사업을 통해 참전용사들께 각별한 존경과 감사를 전하고 혈맹의 가치를 전후 세대에게 알릴 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.

At the event, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop honored the victims through a eulogy read by Kim Seong-joon, head of the Personnel and Welfare Office, and Nachiman, head of the Seoul Regional Veterans Affairs Office, announced that he would pass on the noble spirit of veterans to future generations.
