[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 18일, 19일 이틀간 춘천코리아오픈국제태권대회조직위원회에 따르면 아시아태권도연맹 사전점검단이 대회 사전점검을 위해 춘천을 방문했다고 밝혔다.

 

아시아태권도연맹(ATU) 사전점검은 대회 개최를 앞두고 대회 운영시스템, 프로그램, 시설 등을 사전에 점검하고 체계적인 대회를 준비하기 위해 진행하며, 지난 18일 대회 추진상황 브리핑을 시작으로 아시아태권도연맹(ATU) 이사회 및 총회, 대표자 회의 등 주요 행사가 있을 회의장, 경기장, 만찬장 및 숙소 등 선수들이 기량을 펼치기 위한 주요 시설들을 점검했다고 했고 점검 결과 안전하고 성공적인 대회가 가능한 것으로 점검단은 판단했다고 전했다.

 

아시아태권도선수권대회는 지난 1974년 제1회 서울, 지난 2004년 제16회 성남에 이어 18년 만에 한국에서 개최되고 국비 7억2,000만 원 등 총사업비 21억5,000만 원을 투입했으며 오는 6월 22일부터 27일까지 춘천에서 열리고 43개국 약 1,000여 명이 참가하는 아시아권 최대 규모의 태권도 대회이며, 경기종목은 공인품새, 자유품새, 겨루기 등 3개 종목으로 총 38개 부문으로 진행되고 이외에도 전야제, 개막식, 공연, 시민 참여 프로그램 등 다채로운 부대행사가 마련되며, 이번 아시아태권도선수권대회 개최를 통해 시정부는 태권도 종주도시로서의 위상을 공고히 하고 춘천 지역경제와 관광산업 발전에도 크게 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다고 했다.

 

유성춘 춘천코리아오픈국제태권도대회 조직위원회 위원장은 “코로나 이후 첫 국제대회인 만큼 성공적인 대회 개최를 위해 철저히 준비하겠다”며 “지난 20년간 춘천시민이 보여준 태권도에 대한 열정으로 2022 아시아태권도선수권대회를 유치할 수 있었던 만큼 기대에 부응하도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

 

한편 춘천시정부는 지난 1999년 춘천코리아오픈조직위원회를 창설해 코리아오픈국제태권도대회를 처음 시작한 발상지이자 대한민국 최초 여자 태권도 직장실업팀을 창단한 도시이며, 태권도 관련 전담조직 구성, 전문인력 및 행정인력 구성, 조례 제정, 적극적 대회 인력 및 재정 지원 등 그간 태권도 종주도시로서의 위상을 정립해왔다고 전했다.
