[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 4월 5일 77회째 식목일을 맞으면서 춘천시정부의 1억 그루 나무심기 프로젝트와 조림사업이 새삼 주목받고 있고 전했다.

1억그루 나무심기 사업은 도시열섬과 미세먼지 등 환경변화에 대응하기 위해 오는 2050년까지 1억 그루를 심는 대규모 프로젝트로 지난 2019년을 시작으로 가로변 및 하천변, 공원 및 녹지, 시내 거점 구간 등에 수목을 심는 사업이며, 올해 4년차 사업이 추진된다고 했다.

상반기에는 춘천순환로, 김유정로, 후석로 일원 등 8개 구간 총 12㎞ 구간에 가로수를 식재할 계획이고, 생활권 내 녹지공간확충을 위해 생활환경숲 1개소, 학교숲 1개소, 자투리땅 녹화 5개소를 새롭게 조성하며, 지역 산림 121ha에 다양한 조림사업을 시작해 오는 5월까지 진행할 방침이라고 했다.

목재생산림(57ha), 바이오순환림(50ha), 특용자원조림(3ha), 큰나무 공익조림(4ha), 미세먼지저감 조림(5ha), 지역특화 조림(2ha) 등 총 28만 3,000이 식재되는데, 경제성과 이용 가치를 고려한 고급목재 생산은 물론 산주의 단기소득과 고부가가치 창출, 지역 경관조성 및 미세먼지 저감 등 공익적 가치 증진에 주안점을 둔다고 했다.

시정부 관계자는 “나무심기는 단순히 많은 양을 심는다는 개념을 넘어 코로나19로 지친 시민들에게 힐링을 제공해주는 것” 이라며 “특히 도심속의 숲은 미세먼지에서 벗어나 숨을 쉴 수 있는 공간”이라고 말했고, “미래 세대를 위한 지속가능 도시를 구현하고 시민들에게 맑은 산소를 공급하는 2050 1억그루 나무 심기를 차질없이 추진해나갈 것” 이라고 강조했다.
